WORK EXPERIENCE

Royal Canin South Africa (Pty) Ltd. – Industrial Department
Position Held: Purchasing Manager/Local Director
(October XXXX – present)
Reason for Wanting to Leave: Identical responsibilities but different environment
Roles:
X. Purchasing Department Management
a. Full Management of the Purchasing Department: daily activities with employees, objectives and continuous enhancement. R XXX million budget for XXXX.
It includes Raw Materials (locally sourced and imported from the X continents) as well as all Packaging Materials.

b. Continuous Local Sources Development: sourcing. Contact players on the local market and overseas. Several Projects involving suppliers, traders, consultants and different internal resources: industrial team, R&D and Purchase (head-office and local).

c. Contracts Negotiation: full autonomy. The buying strategy is made of clear and precise steps; the negotiation follows the following: product knowledge (making-of, quality, consistency of volumes, availability, perishability and origin), market knowledge (currencies, offer & demand, risks of bans, outbreaks…), price (volatility, hedging, forward covering…), terms and conditions. I am accountable for all decisions taken and contract negotiated. Constraints are financial as well as industrial (planning, well-running of plant, no shortage, lean production for all operations, quality, technical, handling, storage (pest control management), safety, legal requirements, registration, import documents…).

d. Reporting to local management team as well as French Headquarters: Cost of Goods (COGS), Average Weighted Cost (AWC) per items part of buying portfolio (>XX different Raw Materials, > XXX packaging sku’s). Implementation of industrial reporting tools by using key performance indicators, including Quality, Production, Planning, Dispatch & Customer Expectations as well as all management tools for work force and employees.

e. Budget Preparation and Presentation to Board of Directors (once a year). Overall Capex Plan: preparation (contribution up to XX% for Purchasing Dept + general contribution for investments / new equipments / plant upgrades). Decision maker.

f. Stock Management (Targets, accrual for obsolescence...).

g. Benchmarking: other RC industrial subsidiaries (staff, industrial efficiency, purchase efficiency. Normal price benchmarking.

X. Reception Team Management
a. People management (X staffs reporting to me):
i. X delivery Coordinator: assist and steer projects. He is in charge of the whole and entire Delivery Planning/ Upstream Flows, accountable for all costs (transport cost, operating costs, management of operators (leaves, overtime…).
ii. Daily meeting XX@ X:XXam: organization of the day. Daily Review of technical operations.
iii. Quality and Safety Program Management. Inspection. Good knowledge of legal matters (employees’ rights and duties, working hours, working conditions, as well as most important legal aspects linked to industrial sites (safety with regards to LPG gas tank, vessel containing flammable liquids, dirty water & environment, noise emission, pollution, buildings, scaffolding…).
iv. Product Review per month for continuous commitment towards Quality (TQM).
v. OHaS Act. Health and Safety program. Apply.
vi. Maintain reception yard and plant surroundings (off-loading bays, garden, paved areas…).
vii. Risks analysis in an industrial environment.

b. Multi-skills & Multi-Tasks Program:
i. Co-ordinate the implementation of it
ii. Monthly Appraisal for monthly Bonus System

X. Lean Company Tools
a. XM / XW / Fish Bone Diagram / Poka –Yoke / Pareto / XS / Master Plan / Hoshin-kaizen.

a. For several times, I had to establish a Capex Plan for the “reception” section of the plant and the storage areas. I subcontracted external warehouses for company’s needs (negotiation of all terms and payables, legal matters, rent and conditions, services, access...).

c. Good knowledge in the maintenance field (prevention, management, budget, new and developments, sub-contracting…).

d. Implement relevant tools for reporting: customer satisfaction Indicators (PPM, number of claims, types…).

a. XS (cleaning and housekeeping): implementation, staff awareness / coaching & training (including offices).

Reason for change: Junior & Temporary position held due to management team re-organization.

c. Shared involvement with plant manager in following fields: machinery, equipments, Capex Plan, depreciation and financial impacts on the industrial activities, ordering, equipment upgrading as well as ergonomics for better flow, for higher yield and safer environment.
